The scriptures talk several times about the spirit of heaviness. The first thing you need to understand is that you’re not dealing with a chemical imbalance alone. The Bible talks about unclean spirits in several areas within the scriptures. Another reference calls them “persons without bodies” These unclean spirits are sent to do the work of the devil himself. They can torment us, make us feel restless, hopeless, and even lead us to death.
Medication Doesn’t Solve The Problem, It Covers it up.
The spirit of heaviness is just that; it’s a real-life person without a body who’s speaking painful thoughts into our minds. It can cause internal conflicts that will drive a person insane. Most people will run to a doctor and start the process of depression medication. There’s one major problem with medication; it’s just like applying a bandage to a wound. We can cover up the injury, but underneath, the damage is still very genuine.
What the bible says about removing the spirit of heaviness
To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. – Isaiah 61:3
If you notice in Isaiah it tells you how to deal with the spirit of heaviness. We must put on the garment of praise. What does it mean to praise?
The Hebrew verb halal means “to shine” as can be seen Job 29:3. But when it is written in its pure form it means “commend”
Synonyms for commend
praise, compliment, congratulate, applaud, clap, cheer, toast, salute, admire, honor, glorify, extol, eulogize,
When these forces are attacking us, we must praise the father in heaven with every ounce of our energy. It’s so easy to ignore the world when we’re focused on our problems and pains. By making our praises to the Lord, we can destroy the power of the evil one and come to a place of peace with a sound mind and a newfound hope.
The Power of Biblical Proclamations
Before we go any further, I want to discuss proclamations and tell you of the power they have. The word proclamation means an explicit declaration of something. The Greek word means “to shout forth” When we proclaim the words of the Bible, out loud, we’re releasing God’s very spirit into that situation.
Let’s look at an example. If you are struggling with lying, you would perhaps open up to proverbs and read this verse out loud.
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight. – Proverbs 12:22
When you’re reading out loud the very word of God, you’re coming into agreement with what God himself has said about that problem. You are proclaiming his word and his power through that situation to defeat it.
Jesus Uses Proclamations Against Satan
Jesus did the same thing when being tempted by the devil for 40 days. Let’s take a look at how Jesus used proclamations to defeat Satan’s power. Matthew 4: 3-4
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Jesus was taking the very words of God and proclaiming them over his temptation. We can use that same power to crush the enemy dead in his tracks. If you’re depressed, you’ll need to apply biblical scriptures related to depression and proclaim them out loud. I’ll be providing those proclamations at the end of this article.
Proclamations For The Spirit Of Heaviness
I’m going to share some proclamations you can make to defeat your problem with depression and the spirit of heaviness. Each day, you’re to make these proclamations out loud, once in the morning and once again at night, along with the prayer. You must remember to continue this daily, if you’re serious about getting rid of the demonic noise in your mind, do the things it will take to eliminate them.
Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
Psalm 34:17-18 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
Psalm 30:11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness
Psalm 102:1-11 A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the Lord. Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to you! Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call! For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace. My heart is struck down like grass and has withered; I forget to eat my bread. Because of my loud groaning my bones cling to my flesh.
Now We Will Add Some Praises To The Lord
1 Chronicles 16:23-31
Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place. Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
bring an offering and come before him. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness. Tremble before him, all the earth!
The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!”
The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake.
Great is the Lord in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them praise your great and awesome name—he is holy.
The King is mighty, he loves justice— you have established equity; in Jacob you have done what is just and right. Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy.
Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the Lord and he answered them.
He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud; they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them. Lord our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds.
Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.
Finally, Now We Pray
God, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, according to Your Word, I’m asking You to deliver me from this spirit of heaviness.
Now that you’ve made proclamations, sing praises, and said the prayer for deliverance there is one more thing you must do. Let’s turn to Ephesians.
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God :
The helmet of salvation is what’s going to keep your mind protected from the enemy. Once he goes out, if we don’t keep our minds clean, we will allow it to come back. Remember what the bible says about keeping your house (body) cleaned.
When An Unclean Spirit Returns
When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
To keep them from coming back, put on the helmet of salvation. Learn to train your mind to avoid evil thoughts, when something terrible comes in, give it to Jesus, rebuke it, and immediately deny that thought its power. You’ll have to monitor your thoughts, at first, it was hard for me to do it, but now I’m learning to block all ideas that bring fear, failure of any negativity what so ever. You have to know they’re not from God. His words lift us up, give us hope, and will never bring fear, sadness, or pain.
I hope this helped you understand how you can defeat depression without drugs. I’m not a doctor and if you wish to stop taking them, make sure you speak to a doctor first. It worked for me and I now hate them. I can’t stand what they did to me. This is my personal experience, and I’ll never retake them again!
I now have true freedom through the blood of Jesus Christ and hope you will as well.
